The Alpha course originated in London at Holy Trinity Brompton and has since been introduced throughout the church across many denominations all around the world as an effective tool for evangelism.

We have been running the Alpha course in Burauen for around seven years and have seen great success in seeing local people coming to know Christ and in finding their place in the church.

As far as possible we seek to follow the “recipe” for running Alpha given by HTB and include a celebration supper at the end of each course for those completing to testify and invite friends and family members for the next course.

We also run the Alpha course in the local prison and have been acknowledged by the local government authorities as part of their own program in rehabilitating inmates through spiritual and social awareness.

Several local pastors attended and have subsequently run Alpha in there churches.

One of the amazing things of Alpha is to see people’s understanding of God’s love and His plan of salvation unfold as they attend week by week. With topics on the course including “How do I pray” and “How do read the bible” the course is also practical with opportunity in the small groups for everyone to be involved in ministry.

We praise God for the Alpha course and the blessing it has been in reaching the Waray Waray people here. We were the first to translate the youth Manual into Tagalog a work that was further perfected in Manila and has proved very useful with its pictures for those in the community who find reading a challenge.

I am now an advisor for Alpha in the Philippines and was invited to attend the Asia Pacific Conference in Malaysia in 2005. Here I met other leaders including several Catholic Priests who are running the course in the Philippines and witnessed how God is using the course throughout the whole Asia region in bringing people to Christ.

We have conducted our own Alpha conference in Tacloban among local Pastors and there is opportunity for more of this kind in the near future.
